Section wise Distribution of Marks
Class IX English (Language and Literature)
Question paper will consist of a total of 11 (Eleven) questions divided into three sections –
A, B and C. Section wise weightage will be as follows :

SECTION – A
Question 1. A factual passage with eight very short type questions (8 marks)
Question – 2. A discursive passage with four short answer type questions to test the
inference, evaluation, and analysis. Besides, there will be four very short answer type
questions to test the vocabulary (12 marks)
SECTION – B
Writing and Grammar : 30 marks
* Question 3 : Writing a descriptive paragraph. (Person / Place / Event) / diary /
article in about 100-150 words based on visual and verbal clues
(8 marks)
N. B. : Topics may be chosen from current topics, recent trends, Great Personalities,
awareness programme.
* Question – 4 : Writing a short story based on given outlines or clues in about
100-150 words. (8 marks)
* Question 5 : Gap filling with one or two words to test prepositions / articles /
conjunctions / determiners / Tenses. (1 x 7 = 7 marks)
N.B.: Reporting speech / clause / passive voice may be given as gap filling. They may be
given as – (Answer the following questions as directed ….)
* Question 6 : Editing or Omission (4 marks)
* Question 7 : Sentences reordering (3 marks)
SECTION – C : LITERATURE : 30 MARKS
Question 8 : One out of the two extracts from Prose / Poetry containing 4 (four)
very short answer.

N.B.: From the four very short answer, two question of one mark each on global
comprehension and two questions of one mark each on interpretation. (1 x 4 = 4 marks)
Question 9 : Five short type questions from Beehive and Moments.
(30 – 40 words each) (2 x 5 = 10 marks)
Question No. 10 : One out of two long answer type questions with a word limit of
100-150 words from Beehive. (1 x 8 = 8 marks)
Question No. 11 : One out of two long answer type questions from Moments with a
word limit of (100 –150 words)
(N.B. : Questions should be in (1 + 2 + 5) scheme.)
