Studies are proving that what we eat can have a huge effect on our brain. This, in
turn, may affect how we think and learn. Students in particular are advised to take note
of the ‘brain foods’ they should be eating in order to do better at school or college. Many
studies have shown that students who do not have breakfast regularly do less well in
memory and concentration tests than those who eat.
It is not just the food, but the mixture of food is equally important. ‘A combination
of carbohydrates and proteins is a best mix of food for children in school. Children who
breakfast on sugary drinks and junk food have less memory ability. Food such as eggs,
yoghurt, salad, vegetables are ideal food to kick-start brain in the morning. Oily fish, nuts
and seeds are top of the brain food class since they all contain ‘omega 3’ fatty acids.
