Answer. The poet uses personification to delineate summer’s day more picturesquely than any
painter could. Poet uses various compound words like :
"The Sun shone whole at intervals…..were optional" - shows that the sun is playing the game of
hide and seek with the clouds referred to as his "Estates".
Insects humming, the chirping of birds, and wind playing through the leaves, which leaves an
impact of musical beauty to the perfect summer day. The way the scene is described
“A bird sat careless on the fence –
One gossiped in the Lane”
clearly tells it is a pleasant summer day when everything is in its perfect bloom. The display of
birds, flowers, orchards, tune from miniature creatures, very nicely delineates a summer’s day.

“The Trees like Tassels hit – and – swung ……Accompanying the Sun –“

branches swing in the air as tune hits their ears. The dancing of the tree is similar to that of
humans dancing to celebrate their happiness. Small insects and birds play the music that is
heard by trees and they dance to their tunes.

In the fifth stanza, two birds are compared to village women gossiping in the sunshine. The
