Q1 List the things of beauty mentioned in the poem.
Answer. The sun, shady trees, daffodil flowers, green world, clear rills, musk-rose blooms, a
fountain of immortal drink and tales of heroic men who sacrificed their lives. These are the list of
things of beauty mentioned in the poem.
Q2 List the things that cause suffering and pain.
Answer. Spite of despondency, the inhuman dearth of human natures, hopelessness, bad
health, unhappiness, dark spirits, hot seasons. These are the things that cause suffering and
pain.
Q3 What does the line, ‘Therefore are we wreathing a flowery band to bind us to earth’ suggest
to you?
Answer. Poet constantly admires earth beauty. He believes man and earth are connected and
cannot survive without each other. All the things that nature provides us with beautiful plants
and fresh air and greenery connects us with nature.
Q4 What makes human beings love life in spite of troubles and sufferings?

Answer. Human beings, suffer from hatred, despondency, lack of noble qualities. These things
add sadness to our lives. The poet feels even after suffering, man has power to love life and
move forward. This hope comes from the things around us that nature provides us in
abundance.
Q5 Why is ‘grandeur’ associated with the ‘mighty dead’?
Answer. The “mighty dead” is used for powerful forefathers who had their own ways. Their
values and ideals categorised them as ‘mighty’. Thus “grandeur” is also linked with the dead
ancestors who are remembered for their good works.
Q6 Do we experience things of beauty only for short moments or do they make a lasting
impression on us?
Answer. John Keats begins his poem with the line ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’. It means
that a thing of beauty is a joy forever. He means beauty never withers for many centuries it is
appreciated. The beautiful things make an impression upon us. A person living in the midst of
natural beauty is always gay and cheerful as every moment he has something to be grateful for.
