Q3 “Take care of small things and the big things will take care of themselves.'' What is the
relevance of this statement in the context of the Antarctica environment?
Answer. This statement has a great instance for its credibility in the text. Antarctica has less
biodiversity. The marine life is the only dominant ecosystem there. Small unicellular plants
known as phytoplankton play a major role in providing nutrition to the aquatic animals. The
author explains its prime importance as the food provider of marine animals, the further
depletion in the ozone layer will affect it and the carbon cycle badly. It's a major threat to aquatic
ecosystem dwelling there. So in order to bring major changes , we need to take small steps
towards a well organised way to make bigger changes in the future.
Q4 Why is Antarctica the place to go to, to understand the Earth’s present, past and future?
Answer. Antarctica has half a million of carbon records manifold inside. If explored a lot more
can be discovered about our past through the process of carbon dating. The present scenario
of global warming ,which is the major threat to our environment can be witnessed there. The
melting of glaciers at a faster rate , the rise in temperature are all threats through which one can
precisely predict the future of our upcoming generations.
