Once there was a hare who lived in a forest. One day when he was eating
grass a poor man came in front of him. He was old and looked tired. He asked
for some food. The hare gave him some grass. The man said, ‘‘I don’t eat
grass I am very hungry. Give me something to eat’’.

The hare was sad. He quickly made a fire. ‘‘Please eat me’’ he said to the
old man and jumped into the fire. But the fire did not burn the hare. The
old man picked him up and held him close to his body and said, ‘‘I am an
angel of God. You are very good and kind. I will put you on the moon. Let
everyone see you’’. Saying this, he put the hare on the moon. From that day
onwards, anyone looking at the moon can see the hare on it.
