Food habits refer to the ways people select, prepare, consume and utilize food.
Eating habits can be influenced by social, economic, religious and even
environmental factors. In our India, every state has its own taste and preferences for
food. Let‟s take a look at different cultures of eating from different corners of our
nation.

Bengal‟s incredible love for fish is world-known. Rice with fish is the staple and
most popular food of this state. Apart from that, Bengalis love sweets. People from
Gujarat serve „thalis‟ (single plates) comprising different vegetarian items like roti,
daal, curry, dhokla, jalebi, fafda, thepla etc. On the other hand, Punjab is the only
state that uses the largest amount of dairy products like milk, ghee, curd, butter etc.
Traditional Punjabi foods like dal makhani, makai ki roti and sarson ka saag, along
with lassi or raita taste out of this world. Tamil Nadu, the South Indian state, is
famous for idli, dosa, vada, rasam, utthapam and lots more. Tamil dishes which are
incomplete without curry leaves, are served on banana leaves.
