स्थित क्राइस्‍ट चर्च कॉलेज से इन्‍होंने एं ट्रेंस की परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की । इनका विवाह चंद्रप्रकाश देवी से हुआ । यहीं उनका
संबंध पत्रकारिता से हुआ । इन्‍होंने अपने समय के पत्र 'कर्मयोगी' के लिए लेख टिप्‍पणियॉं और समाचार लिखना प्रारं भ
किया । ये पंडित महावीर प्रसाद द्विवेदी और पंडित मदन मोहन मालवीय के संपर्क में आए । 9 नवंबर, 1913 से कानपुर
से साप्‍ताहिक प्रताप का प्रारं भ किया । 'प्रताप' का कार्यालय क्रांतिकारियों का आश्रय-स्‍थल बन गया था । भयभीत अंग्रेज़ी
सरकार बार-बार प्रताप को बंद करने की धमकी देती थी, लेकिन विद्यार्थी जी ने 'प्रताप' की आभा को कभी फीका नहीं
पड़ने दिया ।
