नब्ु रा लद्दाख का एक रमणीय क्षेत्र है। यहाँ के एक गाँव में ग्यारह वर्ष की एक बालिका
यांग्डोल और उसका जड़ु वाँ भाई दोरजे रहते हैं।
लद्दाख का एक क्षेत्र नब्ु रा
उन्हें उनके परिवेश के गगनचंबु ी
पर्वत-शिखरों और हिमनदों से तो
प्रेम है लेकिन जगमगाते तारों से भरे
रात्रि-आकाश को देखना उन्हें सबसे
अधिक प्रिय है (चित्र 12.1)। नब्ु रा में
मौसम लगभग बादल रहित रहता है।
यहाँ वाय-ु प्रदषू ण एवं प्रकाश-प्रदषू ण न
के बराबर होने के कारण रात में आकाश
बहुत स्पष्ट दिखाई पड़ता है। यांग्डोल
और दोरजे एक के बाद एक कई राताें
तक तारों का अवलोकन करते हैं और
असीम विस्मय का अनभु व करते हैं।
