Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow.
The Sariska National Park, located in Rajasthan covers an area of 800 km in Aravalli hills. There are
varieties of animals in this park such as leopards, deer like sambhar, chitals, and nilgai, wild boar,
langur, four horned antelope, hyena, jungle cat, etc. This park took part in the ‘Project Tiger’ in the year
1979 and became a national park in 1982. The misfortune is that though it is a National Park and a part
of the Project Tiger, it has no tigers left in it.
‘Project Tiger’ is a scheme started by the Indian Government in the year 1973 to save the tigers of
India. Through this, parks get funds to save tigers. In spite of this, the National Park Committee could
not save the tigers of Sariska from extinction.
Without animals, there will be no forests. Hence, we should help save the rich wildlife. We may do this
by either giving donations, visiting national parks or sanctuaries, being members of organizations that
are working towards saving wildlife or just spreading awareness among people on the importance of
wildlife.
