Section – D
4. Source based Questions 5+5=10
(a) Then Baba Amar Das decided to stay on at Khadur Sahib and placed himself at the services of
Guru Angad Dev. Immediate effect of the meeting was that he adopted a life of solitude and spent
his valuable time in meditation without even caring of his own person. So much so engaged in
meditation, he even did not think of his family and house. Though it was not according to Sikh way
of life, yet Guru Angad continued to watch him closely without any interfering and remained
indifferent. After a lapse of time Baba Amar Das realised that meditation is no doubt important in
the Sikh way of life but this alone would not to consider adequate. To meet the approval of the Guru
it must be accompanied by Service (SEWA). He fully realised that it was practically life to be lived in
the midst of society. In fact, it was really the first lesson he had learnt and never forgot this moral. "It
was his firm conviction that the service of the Guru is a virtue of the first order through which the
SEWAK achieves union of swami and attains mukti, the highest state of existence.

(b) In 1519 A.D., Zahir-ud-Din Muhammad Babur, the king of Kabul, invaded Punjab. Firstly, Babur
conquered Bajaur. At the same time he annexed Bhera also. Inspired by his conquests, Babur sent
one of his messengers Mullah Murshid to Ibrahim Lodhi. Daulat Khan Lodhi stopped the messengers

at Lahore. Babur entrusted the administration of his conquered areas to Hindu Beg and himself
returned to Kabul. After some time, the people of Bhera revolted and forced Hindu Beg to run away.
This irritated Babur and he again invaded Punjab in September 1519 A.D., after conquering Bhera
once again, Babur conquered Sialkot also. From here Babur proceeded towards Sayyidpur
(Eminabad). The defence forces of Sayyidpur resisted the invading army of Babur very bravely.
Ultimately, Babur become victorious and killed the defence force. The people of Sayyidpur were
treated inhumanly. Many people were enslaved. Guru Nanak Dev ji was also imprisoned. Guru
Nanak Dev ji has described these atrocities in his Baburbani.
