Mobile phones have become an essential part of our lives. They help us stay
connected, access information and perform daily tasks easily. With smartphones, we can
study, shop, pay bills and even work online. They have become a constantly available source

of entertainment which prevents people from getting bored. In this way, mobiles are a great
blessing of technology. However, their misuse has made them a curse too. Mobile phone
addiction is becoming a major issue as people spend too much time scrolling through screens
rather than interacting with the people around them. Additionally, mobile phones are a big
distraction for students, and their addiction can affect their ability to concentrate on their
studies. Its usage and addiction have increased mental health diseases, like anxiety,
depression and other mental disorders. Cyberbullying and privacy risks are also rising.
Therefore, mobile phones are both a blessing and a curse — it depends on how wisely we
use them.

Q. 14 Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below:
The headmaster entered the class with a slightly flushed face and a hard
ominous look in his eyes. Swaminathan wished that he had been anywhere but there at
that moment. The headmaster surveyed the class for a few minutes and asked, “Are you
not ashamed of coming and sitting there after what you did yesterday?” Just a special

honour to them, he read out the names of dozen students or so, that had attended the class.
After that he read out the names of those that had kept away and asked them to stand on
their benches. He felt that punishment was not enough and asked them to stand on their
desks. Swaminathan was among them and felt humiliated at that eminence. Then they
were lectured. When it was over, they were asked to offer explanations one by one. One
said that he had an attack of a headache and therefore could not come to school. He was
asked to bring a medical certificate.

from nervous and bilious disorders.
Walnut is another dry fruit that possesses wonderful qualities of curing brain
weakness. According to Dr. Johnson, almonds, figs, grapes, dates, apples and oranges are
rich in phosphoric element and should normally be used by brain workers. Phosphorus
nourishes the vital tissues of the body. It keeps the mind full of enthusiasm for more work.
