Gurung Language also known as Tamu Language which is a Tibeto-Burman
Language of the Sino-Tibeto Linguistic family. It is similar to the other languages

got state level recognition in the state of Sikkim since 1995 and has been started

to teach in the Government schools of Sikkim since 2002. This language was

given the affiliation of Class X by CBSE in the year 2014. As a result, the

teaching and learning of this language upto secondary level is done smoothly in
the state of Sikkim till date. Whereas in the case of numbers of Gurung language
learners are decreasing in the high classes due to non-affiliation to CBSE upto
Senior Secondary level. The parents of the learner are compelled to withdraw
their ward as Gurung language is deprived of affiliation upto Senior Secondary
level.
