Background:

The Limboo language belongs to the Sino-Tibetan family. It is widely spoken in Sikkim and

some parts of West Bengal, mostly Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Doors, different parts of Assam,

the eastern region of Nepal, Bhutan and other parts of the world. In Sikkim, the formal teaching-

learning of the Limboo language was started in 1968, erstwhile the Namgyal Kingdom. Since

then, its teaching has been taken as the Scholastic Curriculum of the government schools in

ag
Sikkim. It's reached up to PhD and has been pursuing it at Sikkim University since 2021. All
India Radio, Gangtok, broadcasts a half-hour program in the Limboo language daily from 05: 00
pm to 05:30 pm. The Information and Public Relation Department, Govt of Sikkim, has been
publishing a weekly herald in the Limboo language since 1989. Innumerable books, magazines
and newspapers have been published in the Limboo language. In Sikkim, a monthly Limboo
news bulletin, 'Ingsa', is also being published and circulated to all the universities, colleges and
schools.
