Brief Introduction of Sherpa Language

Sherpa is one of the indigenous communities found in Sikkim.
Sherpa has a rich oral tradition, culture and folklore of their own and the Language is one of
the regional languages of Sikkim. In the years 1995 the government of Sikkim declared the

language as official language of Sikkim and included in school curriculum from the year 2002

and affiliated in CBSE in the year 2014.The majority speaker of sherpa language resides in all

six districts in Sikkim and also found in west Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and some parts of
India. According to the census data the native speakers of sherpa in Sikkim is to be about
