The central government passed the Scheduled Tribes and Other

Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
The introduction to the final Act states that this Act is meant to undo the
historical injustices meted out to forest dwelling populations in not
recognizing their rights to land and resources. This Act recognizes their
right to homestead, cultivable and grazing land and to non-timber forest

produce. The Act also points out that the rights of forest dwellers
includes conservation of forests and bio-diversity.
केंद्र सरकार ने हाल ही में अनसु चि
ू त जनजाति एवं अन्य परं परागत वनवासी (वन
अधिकार मान्यता) अधिनियम, 2006 पारित किया है । इस कानन ू की प्रस्तावना में
कहा गया है कि यह कानन ू ज़मीन और संसाधनों पर वन्य समद ु ायों के अधिकारों को
मान्यता न दे ने के कारण उनके साथ हुए ऐतिहासिक अन्याय को दरू करने के लिए
पारित किया गया है । इस कानन ू में वन्य समद
ु ायों को घर के आस-पास ज़मीन, खेती
और चराई योग्य जमीन और गैर-लकड़ी वन उत्पादों पर उनके अधिकार को मान्यता
दी गई है । इस कानन ू में यह भी कहा गया है कि वन एवं जैवविविधता संरक्षण भी
वनवासियों के अधिकारों में आता है ।
