1. This question paper contains 5 numbers of pages and 13 numbers of questions.
2. It is divided into four sections.
Section-A-Reading (10 marks), Section-B-Writing (10 marks)
Section-C-Grammar (15 marks), Section-D-Literature (15 marks)
3. Question numbers 1,2 and 5to 10 are compulsory.
4. Internal choice is given in question number 3,4 and 11to 13.
5. Write all answers orderly in legible handwriting.
6. Read the instruction of each question thoroughly and attempt all the questions.
7. Number all the answers correctly as in the question paper.
8. Verify your answer before submitting to the invigilator.

SECTION-A (READING) 10MARKS
1. Read the following passage carefully.
In 1941, forty-seven men from Meskwaki tribe joined the army because they wanted
to fight for their country. From these group eight men were chosen for a secret
mission. They became code talkers who used their native language to send secret
messages. (Para-1)

The U.S troops were not able to move safely before the code talkers. The United
States turned to the Meskwaki soldiers because they could pass on important
information without the enemy knowing what was being said. (Para-2)

The group of eight code talkers was sent to North America. During an attack some
of them entered enemy area. The mission took place at night. They used walkie-

talkies to tell the location of the enemy to the troop waiting in the camp. The code
talkers helped United States to win the war. The code was never broken during
World War II. (Para-3)

On the basis of your reading of the above passage, answer the following

2. Read the following poem carefully.

A Dream
I say open your hearts

Let the hatred in us

4. You are Kritika/Kiran of Vidya Bharati Public School, Bhubaneswar. Write an
application to the Principal of your school requesting him/her to give permission for
issuing a new Identity Card as you have lost your old one. (80-100 words) (6 Marks)
