Verbal communication includes sounds, words,

Advantages :
i) It is an easy mode of communication.

changing your interaction as per the other person's
response.
Disadvantages :

32. Explain edge neatening seam with line diagram.
i) Edge neatening seam is used to prevent the edges
of the fabric from rolling or curling. 1
ii) The fabric edges are neatened by means of
stitches as opposed to binding with another or the
same fabric as well as folded hems and edges. 1
iii) The fabric edge inside a garment which has been
neatened on over edge stitch. 1

What is grain ? Explain the grain types with diagram.
Grain: It states the direction in which the yarn is
woven.
i) Straight grain [ lengthwise grains ] are oriented
parallel with the warp threads and the selvedge.
ii) Crosswise grain [cross grain] : Yarn perpendicular
to selvedge is known as crosswise grain.
iii) Bias grain : "The bias" is any grain that falls
between the straight and cross grains.

33. Explain the method that you follow while sewing a
double pointed dart.
Double pointed dart is also called as full dart :
i) Transfer points where darts are to be sewn. ½
ii) Fold the fabric right side facing. ½
iii) Start machining from under end to the narrow ½
end of one tip.

iv) Repeat for the other end by overlapping a few

stitches at centre.

v) Slash at its midpoints to give a smooth fix over
the curve of the body. ½

Double pointed dart is used in bodies of plain

How do you take the upper body measurement while
sewing the customer's garment ? Explain.
i) Bust rounds :– Measure around the fullest part of
the bust. Tape should be placed just below the
shoulder blades at the back.
ii) Round Hip :– Measure around fullest part of hip
that is around the seat.
iii) Round neck :- Measure from front neck to the

back neck around the largest part of the neck.
iv) Shoulder width [ Back width ] :- In the back side
shoulder, measure from left to right pit of the
armhole.
v) Waist Round : Measure around the natural waist.
vi) Shoulder width : Measure from base of the neck
to armhole in the shoulder.
vii) Back length : Measure from the neck base to the
centre of waist.
viii) Shoulder to bust length: Measure from the
highest part of the shoulder to bust point.
ix) Distance between the busts:- Measure a
horizontal distance between the bust points.
x) Front neck depth: Measure from the neck to the
depth as per customer's preference.
xi) Armhole circumference:- Measure around the
underarm and armpit.
xii) Upper arm circumference: Measure from around
the fullest part of the biceps.
xiii) Sleeve lengths : Measure from tip of the shoulder
to any point per the customer's preference.
xiv) Elbow round: Measure around the elbow.
xv) Wrist around:- Measure around the wrist.
