These innovative tests have been designed to test at least two of the four language skills –
Reading(comprehensive), Writing, Listening and Speaking.
General Instructions
1. Use of English language only.
2. The innovative tests are listed under four categories with options in each category.
3. Teachers are free to give any two or all four categories to choose from. Teachers are also free to give
one or all options provided under each category.
4. Each student has to choose any two tests from either of the categories. (One individual activity and
one group activity)
5. Each test will carry 10 marks (10 + 10 = 20)

I. INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY
1. Story Telling:
Original story to be written and narrated by the student.
Time limit for narration: Max. 3 mins.
2. Poetry Writing:
Original poem to be written and recited by the student.
Time limit for recitation: Max. 3 mins.
3. Elocution:
Teacher to provide a choice of five topics in advance. Students to be allowed time to prepare. Student to
select any ONE topic. Time limit: 3 minutes.
4. Extempore - One minute speech:
Teacher to provide five topics.
Student to be given one minute to prepare and one minute to present.
II. GROUP ACTIVITY
1. Skits – either on topics suggested by the teacher or based on any lesson or poem from the text:
Preparation of script and enactment of the Skit.
Skit to be enacted in class.
Time limit: Max. 10 mins.
2. Advertisements :
Creation and enacting of an original advertisement – product name, tag line/jingle, etc.
Time limit: Max. 10 mins.
3. Text based PPT:
Students to present a PPT based on any lesson or poem.
Time limit: Max. 10 mins.
4. Debate:
Topic to be suggested by the teacher. (Avoid sensitive issues.)
Inter group - each team presents arguments either for or against, followed by counter arguments. Each
student speaks for at least 1minute.
Time limit: Max. 10 mins.
III. ENGLISH LITERATURE BASED ACTIVITIES
1. Monologue:
Should be based on any famous character from English literature.
Time limit: Max. 3 mins.
*Individual activity.
2. Literature based Skit:
Script to be based on a part of any novel from English literature.
To be enacted in class.
Time limit: Max. 10 mins.

IV. MEDIA BASED ACTIVITIES1.
1. Creation of a Single Edition Weekly Newspaper:
Should contain synopsis of important news of any one week.
Should consist of two pages – one on current affairs and the other on sports.
Page/chart size to be decided by the teacher.
*Group activity.
2. Review:
Student should watch - a film or play in English and write a review.(150 to 200 words)
The teacher may screen a film in school if audio visual facilities are available or the teacher may suggest the
title/ titles of films or plays to be watched by the student.
*Individual activity.
3. Visit to a Newspaper office or Media house.
The teacher to take the class on a visit. Students should acquire hands on experience on the workings in a
newspaper office or Media house. Students should make a report on their experiences. (150 – 200 words)
*Individual activity.(visit may include a large group of students)
4.Preparing videos or reels on school events:
Students to prepare news based reels or videos on events in the school. Prior permission to be sought from
school authorities for use of mobiles or filming devices.
*Group activity. Duration Max 10 mins.
