8. Selection Procedure
Institute shall admit PG/PhD students through an Entrance Test. The selection procedure is as follows:
P.G.
1) A candidate with valid GATE score will be exempted from entrance examination for admission in
M.Tech./M.Sc. programmes.
2) Written Test shall be conducted for the candidates who do not have valid GATE/CAT/MAT score
for admission in M.Tech./M.Sc./MBA
3) There shall be 100 questions of one mark each in the written test.
4) There will be 25% negative marking for each incorrect answer.
The candidates for MBA will have to appear in the written test and group discussion/personal interview,
which will be conducted in the Centre for Management Studies (CMS), subject to the following
conditions:
a) Weightage for the written test and group discussion/personal interview will be 75% and 25%,
respectively.
b) Only the CAT/MAT qualified candidates will be exempted from the written test.
c) Candidates having a valid CAT score will be given full weightage of allotted written test
marks, while for those candidates having a valid MAT score will be given 80 marks (80%
weightage).
d) If a candidate with a valid MAT Score wants to appear in written test, the candidate will be
allowed to appear in the examination. In this case, the written test score of the candidate will
be considered in place of the MAT score.
e) The list of provisionally selected candidates will be made on the basis of total marks.
PhD
1) A candidate with valid GATE score/NET including JRF (UGC/CSIR/ICAR)/SLET/Lecturer
fellowship and M.Phil. will be exempted from entrance examination for admission in PhD However,
they have to mandatorily appear in the interview conducted by the respective Departments/Centre.
2) The written examination shall be conducted for all those candidates who are not exempted from the
written test.
3) There will be a single question paper for each Department/Centre with 100 multiple-choice
questions of one mark each. There will be two sections in the question paper. The Section-A will
be of 50 marks from Research Methodology, which is common for all the Engineering,
Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences Departments; and the Centre for Management
Studies. The questions in Section-B will be from the respective Departments/Centre for 50
marks. For the syllabi of PhD entrance test, please refer to Annexure – VI.
4) The cut-off to qualify the written test will be 50 marks including both the sections A and B. A
relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to
SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-abled/EWS categories.

5) The selection will be based on a weightage of 70% for the written test and 30% for the
performance in the interview.
6) Interview will be conducted by the respective Departments/Centre considering the following
aspects:
a) The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research work.
b) The research area can be suitably undertaken at the institute level.
c) The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
Candidates are required to download the Admit Card from the website and no separate letter will be sent
for the written test and interview.
The selected list of the candidates will be displayed on the Institute website
(https://www.nerist.ac.in).

9. Admission Procedure for PG and PhD
1) The selected and wait listed candidates will be required to report to the Academic Section of the
Institute on the specified date for counselling-cum-admission and registration.
2) The dates & time of counselling-cum-admission and course registration of selected and
waitlisted candidates of PG and PhD shall be notified in due course of time.
3) Candidates must produce the relevant certificates and mark sheets of all examinations in original
for verification at the time of counselling-cum-admission.
4) Admission will be allowed subject to production of medical fitness certificate and verification of
all certificates and mark sheets.
5) If the result of the qualifying examinations of the selected candidate is not declared before
admission, s/he may be allowed for provisional admission, provided that the candidate submits
examination completion certificate from the Principal/Head of the Institution and admit card of the
said examination.
6) A candidate has to give an undertaking in the prescribed format for submission of the requisite
documents by October 6th, 2023 failing which his/her registration will be cancelled.
Important Note: Any deviation from the stated documentary proof for the chosen reservation code
mentioned in his/her application shall lead to rejection of his/her candidature. Proof of eligibility
against a reservation code, other than All India General category candidates, must be produced at
the time of counselling/admission.
10. Fee Structure
Selected candidates have to pay the prescribed fee through online mode at the time of admission. The
fee structure may be revised by the Institute from time to time. The tentative fee structure of PG and
