13 Company X is facing a lot of problems these days. It manufactures white goods like washing 4
machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators and air conditioners. The company’s margins are
under pressure and the profits and market share are declining. The production department
blames marketing for not meeting sales targets and marketing blames production department
for producing goods, which are not of good quality meeting customers' expectations. The
finance department blames both production and marketing for declining return on investment
and bad marketing.
State the aspect of management that the company is lacking.
Explain Three Features of that aspect of management.

14 - Karan Nath took over ‘D’ North Motor Company from his ailing father three months ago. In 4
the past the company was not performing well. Karan was determined to improve the
company’s performance. He observed that the methods of production as well as selection of
employees in the company were not that scientific. He believed that there was only one best
method to maximise efficiency. He also felt that once the method is developed that the
workers of the company should be trained to learn that “best method”. He asked the
Production Manager to develop the best method and carry out the necessary training. The
Production Manager developed this method using several parameters right from deciding the
sequence of operations, place for men, machines, and raw materials till the delivery of the
product to the customers. This method was implemented throughout the organisation. It
helped in increasing the output, improving the quality and reducing the cost and
wastage.Identify and explain the principles and technique of scientific management followed
by production manager in the above case.

17 Suhasini, a home science graduate from a reputed college, has recently done a cookery 6
course. She wished to start her own venture with a goal to provide 'health food' at reasonable
prices. She discussed her idea with her teacher (mentor) who encouraged her. After analysing
various options for starting her business venture, they short listed the option to sell ready
made and 'ready to make vegetable shakes and sattu milk shakes. Then, they weighed the pros
and cons of both the short listed options.
