Q1 If you had lived in Roman Empire, where would you rather have lived - in the towns or in the
countryside? Explain why.

Answer. If one had lived in Roman Empire, one would have preferred to live in the towns rather
than living in the countryside. Following we're the reasons :
→ The town had better education facilities and economic infrastructures were far more better
than that of the countryside.
→ Towns had excellent storage facilities for food grains and could withstand floods and
droughts.
→ The level of entertainment was way higher in the towns.

Answer. The Roman government stopped coining silver because the Spanish silver mines were
exhausted and government ran out of sufficient stocks of the metal to support a stable coinage

Constantine founded the new monetary system on gold and there were vast amounts of this in
circulation throughout late antiquity.

Q5 Suppose the emperor Trajan had actually managed to conquer India and the Romans had
held on to the country for several centuries. In what ways do you think India might be different
today?

Answer. If the emperor Trajan had actually managed to conquer India and the Romans had held
on the country for several centuries then the things that would be different today are :
→ The Indian History and Culture would have been totally different today.
→ The way of dressing and good habits would have been different today.
→ Trade relations would have been different.
→ Art, architecture, paintings and sculptures would have been different.
→ Indians would have followed different religion today i.e Christianity.
→ Slavery would be deep rooted in India.
→ The idea of public bath would have been adopted.
→ Family Value System would have been totally different.
→ Education system today would have been at different levels.

Answer. Some basic features of Roman society and economy that look quite modern are :
→ Prevalence of the nuclear family system.
→ Level was entertainment was much higher.

→ Rights given to women to own natal property.
→ Divorce was relatively easy and needed no more than a notice of intent to dissolve the
