V. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: 1x4=4
36. The next morning, we resumed our journey and by noon, we reached the outskirts of
their capital city named Mildendo. At the place where my carriage stopped, there stood an
ancient temple, which was the largest building in the entire kingdom of Lilliput. It appeared to
be deserted.
The Emperor, with his entire court, came out to see me. However, I was unable to see them as
I lay bound to the flat cart, like an exhibit. So, they intend to lodge me in this deserted temple,
eh!” I guessed as I glanced at the strange looking building. The gate of the temple was about
four feet high and almost two feet wide. On each side of the gate was a small window, about
six inches from the ground. About twenty feet from the temple stood a turret, about five feet
high. I was told later that the emperor had climbed on this turret to have a better view of me.
Thousands of Lilliputians thronged around me and looked at me in amazement and disbelief.
Many climbed over my body and walked around, often jumping about and crying in
astonishment. For them, this was an experience of a lifetime. This went on, till an order was
issued by the Emperor, forbidding anyone to venture near me. Once the crowed was held
back, the Royal smiths got to work and bound my left leg with a hundred chains, whose other
end was fastened to the temple’s wall, near the gate. The chains were held in place with the
help of thirty –six padlocks. “They intend to keep me as prisoner in this land!” I thought, quite
amazed at the detailed preparations they had made to receive me in their capital.
