Q2 Politics is more than what politicians do. Do you agree with this statement? Give examples.
Answer. Yes, politics is not restricted to the activities performed by the respective politicians as
the contemporary narratives about the domain of politics is quite diverse and broader in its basic
application. The input-output method of politics enables us to understand the whole dynamic
process of such political transaction. The importance of the social capital present in the
functioning of a good governance can be understood by the processes of elections, pressure
groups and interest groups, which play an important role in the whole process of politics.
For example: Elections form an imperative part of the politics and it is considered as a process
beyond the role of politicians as it includes, the electors, electorates and the election
commission for the proper application of the election procedures. It drafts upon the basic ideas
of administration and accountability of the elected members.

Answer.The whole notion of vigilant citizens is quintessential for the successful functioning of a
democracy. The aspects of accountability and the proper system of checks and balances is
considered as the basic tenets of democracy. The vigilant citizens often maintain the balance of
democracy by restraining the government and also by questioning the basic aspects of law and
order, policing and administration. It limits the emerging trends of authoritarianism and also
creates an essential level of political consciousness among the citizens. It increases the degree
of active participation from the citizens in all the law-making procedures.
Q4 In what ways is the study of political theory useful for us? Identify four ways in which
political theory can be useful to us?
Answer. The study of political theory is useful to us as :
(a) It increases our knowledge about the basic aspects of the government. It increases the
domain of knowledge as it touches upon the aspects of limitations and clarifications regarding
the powers of the government.
(b) It deals with the basic political theoretical aspects including equality, freedom, justice etc.
(c) It stresses upon the subjective aspect of the political topics as it determines the interpretive
inclinations of political theory.

basic aspects and topics pertaining to good governance.

Answer. Yes, a good and convincing argument can compel others to listen to us as it forms the
basic aspect of debate and discourse. Augmentation forms the basic aspect of the democratic
dialogue and enhances the chances of non-violent discourse. The representation and the active
participation of underprivileged sections of the society is important for such a process to be
successful.

Answer. No, studying political theory is not like studying mathematics as both of them are
different in their principles and methods of applications. The basic tenets of political theory rely
upon the theme of subjectiveness while as mathematics is considered as the subject pertaining
to objectivity. On the other hand, the aspects of political theory is considered as closely
connected with the applied humanities while as mathematics is used for systematic and
mechanical purposes.
