a 12 State and explain any two data types in MYSQL. 2
In MySQL, a data type is an attribute of a column or variable that defines what type of data
can be stored in that column or variable. MySQL supports a wide range of data types, which
can be broadly classified into the following categories:
1. Numeric data types: These data types are used to store numeric values, including
integers, floating-point numbers, and decimal numbers. The most commonly used
m .
.co s e m
s em l a
g la ag
a For more Question Papers, Sample Papers, Notes & Syllabus visit Page 5 of 19
Page 7
numeric data types in MySQL are INT (for integers), FLOAT and DOUBLE (for
floating-point numbers), and DECIMAL (for decimal numbers).
2. Date and time data types: These data types are used to store date and time values,
including DATE (for dates), TIME (for times), DATETIME (for date and time
values), and TIMESTAMP (for timestamps).
3. String data types: These data types are used to store text and character data, including
CHAR and VARCHAR (for strings of characters), TEXT (for longer strings), and
ENUM and SET (for enumerated values).
4. Binary data types: These data types are used to store binary data, including BLOB
(for large binary objects) and VARBINARY (for variable-length binary data).
13 Explain Update Command with an example. 2
UPDATE: command is used to modify data in a table. Either a single row of data or
multiple records can be updated when updating a single column in a table.
Syntax :
UPDATE table_name
SET column_table = ‘value’
WHERE condition;
Eg. UPDATE ORDERS_TBL
SET QTY = 1
WHERE ORD_NUM = ‘23C24’;
14 Explain the following function Monthname() and SUBSTR() with example. 2
MONTHNAME() function is used to retrieve the full name of a month from a date
value. It takes a date or a date-and-time expression as an argument and returns the full
name of the month associated with that date. The syntax is as follows:
MONTHNAME(date_expression)
In MySQL, the SUBSTR() function is a built-in string function that returns a substring of a
given string. The syntax for the SUBSTR() function is as follows: SUBSTR(string, start,
length)
15 Explain Trigger in MYSQL. 2
A trigger is a compiled procedure in the database used to perform actions based on
other actions that occur within the database. It is a form of a stored procedure that is
executed when a specified (data manipulation language) action is performed on the
table. The trigger can be executed before or after an INSERT, DELETE OR
UPDATE.
The trigger can also be used to check data integrity.
Trigger can roll back transactions and they can modify data in one table and read from
another table in another database.
16 Explain briefly predefined function $_POST. 2

Page 8
m
m .co
m .co s e m
se g l a
a
The predefined $_POST variable is used to collect values from a form sent with
method="post".
Information sent from a form with the POST method is invisible to others and has no
limits on the amount of information to send.
Note: However, there is an 8 Mb max size for the POST method, by default (can be
m

changed by setting the post_max_size in the php.ini file).
m
Example
m .co s e m
s e l a
g l a
<form action="welcome.php" method="post">
Name: <input type="text" name="fname" /> ag
a
Age: <input type="text" name="age" />
<input type="submit" />
</form>
17 Explain required Function in PHP. 2
require() results in a fatal error if the specified file does not exist ,does not allow the
processing of the page, halts the processing of page.
m
<?php
m .co
require(“nofileexistshere.php”);
s e
la
Echo “hello world!”;
?>
ag
The echo statement will not be executed because the script execution died after
the require command returned a fatal error. Use require because script should not
be executed if necessary files are missing.
18 With an example explain mysql_connect(). 2
Mysql_connect() : used to connect to mysql server.It takes three arguments which
are IP address of a MYSQL server to connect , the user name, and the password for
that username.
m
m .co

The value returned by mysql_query is assigned to a variable query the records will be
displayed from customer table as per given condition if state is equal to Goa
20 Explain following segment of PHP code 2
$result=mysql_query(“select * from product_table where price between 1000 and
2000”);
$result is a variable used to assign a value returned by mysql_query.
The given query will display all the fields from product_table where the price of item
is between 1000 and 2000 including the value 1000,2000.

4 To remove the Address column:

23 Explain while loop with example. 4
While loop: If the test expression is true then the code in the
statement block will be executed. After the code has executed
the test expression will again be evaluated and the loop will
continue until the test expression is found to be false.
The statement block must feature code that will affect the
test expression in order to change the evaluation result to
false at some point otherwise an infinite loop will be
created. It is important to note that if the test expression
is not true when it is first evaluated the code in the
statement block is never executed.
eg to find sum of 1 to 10 numbers.
