14. Read the paragraph and answer the questions given below : 6
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when our blood glucose is too high.
Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that helps glucose get into our
cells to be used for energy. If we have diabetes, our body does not make
enough insulin or use it properly. Diabetes is of two types – Type 1 and
Type 2.
In Type 1 diabetes, our body makes little or no insulin. This is usually
found in children. People with Type 1 diabetes need to take insulin every
day.
In Type 2 diabetes, the cells in our body do not use insulin properly. The
pancreas may be making insulin but is not making enough to control
blood glucose level. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes.
People with obesity and a family history of diabetes are more likely to
develop Type 2 diabetes.
To avoid diabetes, we need to do physical exercise, eat balanced diet, avoid
smoking and drinking and if diabetic, take medication regularly.
(a) Which gland produces insulin in our body ? 1
(b) How can we avoid diabetes ? 2
(c) How many types of diabetes are there ? 1

(e) Who are the people most likely to develop Type 2 diabetes ? 1
