15. The word Gharana comes from the ‘Hindi’ word ‘Ghar’ which means 6
home. So the literally meaning of Gharana might be family or lineage.
There are six Gharanas of Tabla. Ustad Siddhar Khan was the founder of
Delhi Gharana. His grandsons and their disciples spread to various cities
of the country and settled permanently. They modified their style based on
local situation and established new Gharana of Tabla. Delhi Gharana is
‘Kinar’ ‘Baaj’. Peshkar, Kayada, Rela, Mukhda, Tukda are the specialty of
their Gharana.
‘Dhate tedha tete dhadha’ with this bols make a Kayada and Tihai in
Teentala with Tala Notation System.
