To be marginalized is to be forced to occupy the sides or fringes and
thus not to be at the centre of things. In the social environment groups of

people or communities may have the experience of being excluded.
Their marginalization can be because they speak a different language,
follow different customs or belong to a different religious group from
the majority community. They may also feel marginalized because they
are poor, considered to be of ‘low’ social status and viewed as being less
human than others.

A radical nationalist, with socialist leanings, Bose did not share
Gandhiji’s ideal of ahimsa, though he respected him as the “father of the
Nation” . In January 1941 , he secretly left his Calcutta home, went to
Singapore, via German, and raised the Azad Hind Fauj or the Indian
National Army (INA).
Why and how was the Indian National Army formed ?

Article 17 of the constitution states that untouchability has been
abolished-what this mean is that no one can hence forth, prevent Shedule
casts from educating themselves, entering temples, using public facilities
etc. It also means that it is wrong to practice untouchability and that this
practice will not be tolerated by a democratic government. In fact,
untouchability is a punishable crime now.
There are other sections in the constitution that help to strengthen the
argument against untouchability –for example, Article 15 of the
constitution notes that no citizen of India Shall be discriminated against
on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth.
i) By which article of the Indian constitution untouchability has
been abolished ?
ii) What does it (abolished) mean ?
iii) What will a Democratic government do if this practice of
untouchability continues ?
iv) Which other article of the Indian constitution is against
untouchability ?
v) What is written in this article ?
