Mrs. LINDEN: I arrived by this morning's steamer.

NORA: To keep Christmas, of course. Oh, how delightful! What fun we shall have!

Take your things off. Aren't you frozen? (Helping her.) There now we'll
sit down here cozily by the fire. No, you take the armchair; I'll sit in this
rocking chair. (Seizes her hand) Yes, now I can see the dear face again.
It was only at the first glance - But you're lit little paler, Christina, and
perhaps & little thinner.

Mrs. LINDEN: And much, much older, Nora.

NORA: Oh, Christina, Christina, it's so lovely to live and to be happy! ¬ Oh! But
it's really too horrid of me! Here I am talking about nothing but my own
concerns. (Sits down on a footstool close to her and lays her arms on
Christina’s lap.) Oh! don't be angry with me! ¬

Now just tell me, is it really true that you didn’t love your husband? What
made you take him then?

Mrs. LINDEN: My mother was then alive, bedridden and helpless; and then I had my two
younger brothers to think of. I thought it my duty to accept him.

(i) A Director is the creative head of a theatrical production. Explain. [6]

(ii) “Rhythm is that which asserts, it is a form of movement, it is vital”! Explain [6]
what the external rhythm of an actor means.

(iii) Pauses are equally important in dialogue. Explain three types of pauses. [8]

(i) Describe briefly any two folk theatre forms from the pictures below. [6]

connected to picturisation in theatre?

(iii) As a Director who has to dramatise the scene above, explain how you would [8]
give instructions, to the characters numbered 1-4, explaining each body
position and facial expression. (For example, Character 5, is sitting in full front
position, face turned upwards facing stage left, with a sorrowful facial
expression.)

Question 5

Create a 2-3 page dialogue on any one of the conflict scenarios mentioned below. Explain [20]
the setting of the scene, give names to your characters, and a title.

(i) Karan wants to quit college and become a social activist against the stocking
up of nuclear weapons by the world’s most powerful countries. His father is a
world-renowned, Indian nuclear physicist working in Russia.

OR

(ii) Mr. Fence is the CEO of a large IT company and due to the recent financial
recession, he had to send off 560 employees. Bill, is one of the laid-off
employees and is now suing the company as they are using a software he
created, to analyze employee effectiveness and cost-cutting.

SECTION C (40 Marks)
(Answer any two questions from this Section.)

Question 6

(i) Describe any three types of lighting lanterns used by lighting designers. [10]

(ii) Describe how stage lighting can be fluid, selective, sculptural and atmospheric? [10]

Question 7

(i) A murder mystery play has to be enacted with 8 characters. The play is set in a [10]
Hotel and the Director wants the stage set to have 2 floors with 4 rooms on each
floor, each room for a character, one of which is the murdered victim. The Stage
Manager will have to communicate with the Sets, Lighting, Sound, Make-up,
and Costume designers and explain the Director’s vision to them. Explain the
functions of a Stage Manager in connection with the 5 designers mentioned.

(ii) To enact the play above, which stage would you choose, if you had a choice [10]
between a Thrust Stage, Arena Stage, or a Proscenium Stage? Explain why and
elaborate on the advantages and disadvantages you would face, in the staging
format you chose. Use a diagram.

(i) Above are pictures of a hip-hop artist and an astronaut. As a costume designer, [10]
point out two main elements in these costumes that are essential to create the
specific look of these characters. Explain two functions of a costume designer.
