Iqbal’s father, Shaikh Noor Mohammad had two sons. The elder brother of
Iqbal was Shaikh Ata Mohammad who was about fourteen years older than
Iqbal, as is mentioned by the compiler of his Kuliyat. His father who had a
nonformal education, insisted that his sons should be educated in schools. His
elder son received higher education and he took up the engineering
profession. Iqbal passed middle school Examination from Sialkot in 1891.
