ENGLISH - I (Second Language)
PRINCIPLES OF VALUATION
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS :
1. The examiners are expected to go through the relevant portion of the
textbook before taking up evaluation.
2. Marks should be awarded as follows :
- 80% of marks for presentation of matter and grammar.
- 20% for spelling.
3. Grammar mistakes should be underlined and the spelling mistakes to be
rounded off.
4. All the correct points should be ticked to help the examiner in awarding
marks.
5. The answers in the key only help to know the outline of the answer that is
required for each question. Any other relevant point should be given credit.
6. If the answer is irrelevant, it should be shown in the margin.
7. Border cases must be looked into with utmost care.
8. The total should be in double digits. i.e. if a candidate gets five, it should
be written as '05' and in words as 'Zero Five'.
9. Full marks may be allocated if all the relevant points and no grammatical
mistakes are found in any answer.
10. The total should be shown, on the front page / OMR Sheet, clearly.
11. Answer in PART-A should be in complete sentences.

5. A) Mother Teresa's real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She
was born on 26th August, 1910, She was an Albanian born
in Skopje and a Roman Catholic by religion.
Mother Teresa joined the Institute, Sisters of Loreto and
worked for Missionaries of Charity. She worked relentlessly
for the poor from 1950 to 1997. She took her last breath on
5th September, 1997 at Calcutta in India.

B) A GRANDEUR ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
Mummidivaram, 6th Feb : The Annual Day celebrations were
held in a grand manner at Zilla Parishad High School,
Mummidivaram. The whole school participated actively to
make the occasion a grand success. The celebrations took
place on 5th February at 5 p.m. Our Headmaster invited the
M.L.C and Panchayat President as Chief Guests.
The stage was decorated by X std. boys with flowers and
balloons to make it look beautiful and colourful. The Chief
guests arrived on time. After the Welcome Address, our
Headmaster presented the Annual Report of the school. The
Chief guests gave their valuable messages to the pupils. They
also took part in Prize distribution to the efficient students
for their academic performance and winners in sports and
games.
The cultural activities started at 7 p.m. Many students
from different classes showed their excellent performances
in dances, skits, mimicry etc... The audience enjoyed the
programme. At the end of the programme, our social studies
teacher conveyed 'Vote of Thanks' to the invitees and
participants.
The programme ended with the National Anthem.
