1 1 Mind management is a way to control one’s mind. To do this, we need to be cautious about our
thinking process and also need a high level of understanding and meditation as well.
Understanding is wisdom – 80 percent of people are knowledgeable, while 20 per cent are wise.
Knowledgeable men take sides without reason. They feel sad seeing deprived people but jealous
when they see happy people. They work in the guidance of others’ inspiration, take unnecessary
responsibility to keep themselves disturbed.
2 A wise person does not stand for or against any idea without concrete reason. He works according
to the situation and capacity. He looks at everything intellectually. To him, failure is a stepping
stone for future success. So, depression and conflict are not seen but sometimes he feels jealous.
Like the phrase ‘Stop, Look, go’, first one should see, and this needs patience. Meditation is
necessary to control and manage mind which then becomes an easy task.
3 Unless we control or manage our mind, it is difficult to achieve success and peace. Psychologists
say every interest is first born in the mind as a seed. Then it continues to grow. Later it takes its
real form which everybody can see. The interest that first appears in the mind remains weak for
the first three minutes and it becomes strong within the next five minutes. All the negative aspects
should be deleted within the first three minutes. If not taken out, they would become stronger
later and you can never throw them out. After taking control over the mind, we can control
passion, interest and unrest. Mind management is essential for a peaceful, successful and healthy
life.
4 The age of computers has thrown us on the escalator of aspirations but has robbed us of simple
charms like falling asleep. The compulsions of hectic schedules burden the mind and cause stress.
However, the joys that elude us can be regained by practising power meditation. It creates
tranquillity, simplifies life and cleanses the mind. It helps control indolence, ego and anger and
builds confidence and patience. With power meditation, negative thoughts get dissipated and a
sense of happiness is achieved.
Based on your understanding of the passage, answer the questions given below.
i Mind management is essential ………………………… 1
A. for a peaceful, successful, and a healthy life
B. to remain deprived
C. for a wealthy life
D. to dominate others
ii With power meditation, negative thoughts get __________and a sense of happiness is 1

Each day, most of us depend on caffeine to wake up and be ready for the day to cope with the fast-paced
life. Consumption of caffeine is an ancient habit. In fact, this natural stimulant is one of the most
commonly consumed beverages in the world. Though caffeine is known for its ill effects on health, it’s
one of the best sources to provide us with that extra “energy” that makes us get going. Many of us rely
on caffeine to stay alert and improve concentration. It may also increase blood adrenaline levels and
increase brain activity of the neurotransmitter’s dopamine and norepinephrine. This combination further
stimulates the brain and promotes a state of arousal, alertness, and focus. Because it affects your brain,
caffeine is often referred to as a psychoactive drug. Despite all these apparent benefits, the quantity of
caffeine intake should be kept under check.
Adults are still considered safe to have a dose of caffeine, adolescents and young adults should be very
cautious while consuming it. So the bottom line lies with the fact “when it is safe to start the
consumption of caffeine” and “how much to consume”. If we’re careful enough to keep in mind these
two questions, we shall definitely be awarded the title ‘Conscious Consumer’ of caffeine.
Too much caffeine may also promote headaches, migraine, and high blood pressure in some individuals.
In addition, caffeine can easily cross the placenta, which can increase the risk of miscarriage or low birth
weight. Pregnant women should limit their intake.

3 Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow:
The scope of democracy needs to be widened and deepened for people to have a real voice to influence
decisions that shape their lives, and the power to hold decision- makers accountable, not only through
elections but in the periods between elections. While formal institutions of democracy have become a
universal norm, it is important to develop and sustain the core values of inclusiveness, participation and
accountability, before institutions can be seen as truly democratic.
It has been seen that a lasting solution for eradicating poverty and shaping human progress can be found
much through politics as through economics. Politics matters in a large way; because it is through this
mechanism that the rights of the citizen in any country are determined. It decides whether the people
should be allowed to participate in the decision making process that impacts their lives.
In the last two decades, the politics has witnessed a sea change. There are innumerable instances across
the world, of the opening up of political systems and increased rights and power to the people. The world
Page 5
Annual Exam 2025 Question Paper
can be labeled as much more democratic, but there are several underlying problems to be dealt with.
According to a UN report, 140 countries hold multi-party elections, out of which only 81 have taken
significant steps towards democracy, out of the nearly 200 countries, people still do not enjoy their rights
in the rest and their freedom is also curbed.
The democratic system of voting in the elections had added crucial element of governance from the
human development stand point, because elections symbolize enforceable accountability. When a
government fails to live up to the needs and desires of the people, they can simply vote it out of the
office the next time. There can be no stricter form of accountability, no more egalitarian form of
participation. The right to vote itself has given every individual a choice.
However, it would be a grim mistake if one equated democracy with regular ritual of elections. A vibrant
democracy requires functioning institutions- for instance a legislature that does not do a specific
individual’s bidding; a judiciary that is independent and understands the importance of equal treatment of
all through the eyes of the law; a free, independent and unbiased media and security forces that carry out
their duties without specific political allegiances. It also requires an active and alert civil society that can
ensure that the government works in the general public interest, and also keeps giving its inputs wherever
required. An independent judiciary provides the necessary checks and balances between the democratic
institutions of governance. The UN report emphasizes accountability at national and international level.
Accountability is central to democratic governance. It ensures the holders of public trust acting
effectively and fairly. In the presence of a free press and an active civil society, people have several ways
of participating in the policy decisions and debates.
