other labeled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the
codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below
(a) Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.

of Assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but Reason is false.
(d) Assertion is false but Reason is true.
7. Assertion (A): The displacement of a body may be zero, when distance travelled 1

law of vector addition, find the magnitude and direction of their resultant.
SECTION: - D
16. CASE STUDY BASED [ 1 X 4 = 4 M ] 4
When a body moves along a circular path with a uniform speed ,its motion is said to
be uniform circular motion. In uniform circular motion, the direction of velocity
vector which acts along the tangent to the path changes continuously but its
magnitude (v = r ω) always remains constant. So uniform circular motion is an
accelerated motion. A body undergoing uniform circular motion is acted upon by an
acceleration which is directed
along the radius towards the centre of the circular path, This acceleration is called
centripetal acceleration. The magnitude of the acceleration is constant given by
𝒗
ac = 𝒓 = ω2r
But the direction of ac changes continuously, always pointing towards the centre. So
centripetal acceleration is not a constant vector. The resultant acceleration of the
body in circular motion is towards the centre only if its speed is constant.
Answer any four:
(I) A body executing uniform circular motion has at any instant its velocity vector
and acceleration vector -
(a) along the same direction (b) in opposite direction
(c) normal to each other (d) not related to each other.
(II) The angular speed of a fly-wheel making 120 revolution / minute is -
(a) π rad/sec (b) 4π rad/sec (c) 2π rad/sec (d) 4π2rad/sec
(III) A particle moves with constant speed v along a circular path of radius r and
complete the circle in time T. The acceleration of the particle is -
(a) 2πv/T (b) 2πr / T (c) 2πr2 / T (d) 2πv2 / T
Page 4
( IV) Which of the following statement is false for a particle moving in a circle with
a constant angular speed ?
(a) The velocity vector is tangent to the circle
(b) The acceleration vector is tangent to the circle
(c) The acceleration vector points to the centre of the circle
(d) The velocity and acceleration vectors are perpendicular to each other.
( V ) A body is whirled in a horizontal circle of radius 20 cm. It has an angular
velocity of 10 rad/s. What is its linear velocity at any point on circular path?
(a) 20 m/s (b) 5 m/s (c) 10 m/s (d) 2m/s
SECTION: - E

Derive an expression for
(i) time of flight
(ii) maximum height
(iii) horizontal range.
(b) Show that for two complementary angles of projection of a projectile thrown with the
same velocity, the horizontal ranges are equal.
18. (a) The radius of a sphere is 1.41 cm. Express its volume to an appropriate number 2+3
of significant figures.
(b) The frequency ‘ν’ of vibration of a stretched string depends upon (i) its length l,
