IX. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :

Just before the coming of winter, sometimes in October-November, large crowds
of people from all parts of the country come to Pushkar, about 15 km from

Ajmer, in different ways ranging from bullock carts and camel carts to imported
cars.

Many of the visitors come for a dip in the holy Pushkar Lake during the Kartik
Purnima and participate in the fair which is perhaps the most colourful in India.
Most of the visitors are rural folk who come from the surrounding desert country.

They stay in tents or sleep under the bright, starry sky. Mainly they come to buy
and sell cattle. It is estimated that over half a lakh of cattle change hands during
the week long mela.
