A) Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below:
(i) King Krishnadeva Raya would perform heavy exercises every morning. He regularly applied
oil on his body and thereafter worked out till all the oil came out with the sweat. This was
followed by a long ride on his horse.

(ii) Once the king started leading a sedentary lifestyle, and he stopped exercising. He no longer
went horse-riding either. The king overate and as a result grew fat and heavy. The king’s
temperament also underwent a great change.

(iii) Noticing this, the royal physicians cautioned the king against the ill-effects of overeating and
explained to him the risks posed by obesity. They advised the king to regulate his diet, exercise
and take care of his health.

happy,” the God asked him. Midas thought for a while and then said, “Please give me the power to
turn everything I touch into gold.” Bacchus laughed and said, “Your wish is granted. As soon as

the sun rises tomorrow, you will have the golden touch.”

(ii) The next morning Midas woke up and he had his golden touch. He touched his bed, the chairs,
doors, windows and all became gold. Suddenly, he felt very hungry. He sat at the table but as soon as
the food touched his lips, it turned into gold. So did the water. It seemed he could no longer eat or
drink. After some time, his daughter came to him. When he put his hand on her, she became a gold
statue. In the end, Midas became very sad and prayed to God Bacchus to take away the golden touch
from him.

A little girl whose parents had died, lived with her grandmother and slept in an upstairs bedroom. One
night there was a fire in the house and the grandmother perished while trying to rescue the child. The
fire spread quickly and the first floor of the house was engulfed in flames.

The neighbours called the Fire Department and then stood by helplessly, unable to enter the house
because the flames blocked all the entrances. Suddenly the little girl appeared at an upstairs window,
crying for help. Just as word spread among the crowd that the fire-fighters would be delayed for a
while as they were attending to another fire.

Suddenly a man appeared with a ladder, put it up against the side of the house and disappeared

India has a large network of roads. Most parts of India are connected with roads. The most important

One of the oldest highway is the Grand Trunk Road built by Sher Shah Suri in the sixteenth century. It
