General Instructions:
1. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
2. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions.
A student is expected to attempt only one of these questions.
3. Section A consists of 20 objective-type questions carrying 1 mark each.
4. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 2 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
5. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 3 marks each. Answers to
these questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
6. Section D consists 03 Long Answer type questions carrying 5 marks each. Answer to
these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
7. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 4 marks each with
sub-parts.

A teacher told three students A, B and C to prepare 25% solution (mass by volume) of KOH.
Student A dissolved 25 g of KOH in 1oo g of water, student B dissolved 25 g of KOH in 100
mL of water and student C dissolved 25 g KOH in 120 ml. Which one of them has made
required 25% solution? Give your answer with reason. [3]
29. A sedan car of mass 200kg is moving with a certain velocity. It is brought to rest by the
application of brakes, within a distance of 20m when the average resistance being offered to it
is 500N.What was the velocity of the motor car?
30. A hockey ball of mass .2 Kg travelling at 10 ms-1 is struck by a hockey stick so as to
return it along its original path with a velocity at 2 m/s. Calculate the change of momentum
occurred in the motion of the hockey ball by the force applied by the hockey stick.

37. The word ‘matter’ refers to everything in the universe that has mass and takes up space.
States of matter are generally described on the basis of qualities that can be seen or felt. Three
states of matter can be found in daily life: solid, liquid and gas. Matter that feels hard and
maintains a fixed shape is called a solid, matter that feels wet and maintains its volume but not
its shape is called a liquid. Matter that can change both shape and volume is called a gas.
