The sun that shines all day so bright,
I wonder where it goes at night.
It sinks behind a distant hill
And all the world grows dark and still.
And then I go to bed and sleep
Until the day begins to peep.
And when my eyes open,
I see the Sun is
shining down on me.
Why the child wonders: The child cannot see where the Sun goes, so the child keeps
thinking about it.
Tip for reciting: Say the first four lines softly and slowly. Say the last lines in a happy voice.
Q2 Which words in the poem rhyme?
Three pairs of words rhyme in this poem.

A.1 A. Answer the following.
1. Where does the Sun go after the end of the day?
The Sun sinks behind a distant hill. Then the whole world grows dark and still, and night
comes.
− Exp anat onl i
Why: The Sun does not really go anywhere. Our Earth turns slowly, like a spinning top.
When our side of the Earth turns away from the Sun, the Sun seems to go down behind the
hills, and it is night for us.

The sunflower and the plants need sunlight to grow and to make their food.
Children need sunlight to stay strong and healthy.
Toys and a table are not living things. They do not need the Sun.
A.3 A. Answer the following.
3.The poem talks about the Sun in the sky. What else do you see when you look up at
the sky?
Sample answer: When I look up in the day, I see clouds, birds, kites and aeroplanes.
Sometimes I see a rainbow. At night I see the Moon and the stars.

B.1 B. Think and answer.
1. What different colours do we get to see during sunrise and sunset?
At sunrise and sunset the sky turns red, orange, pink, yellow and golden.
Sometimes we see a little purple too. The clouds near the Sun take these colours.
− Exp anat onl i
Why: At sunrise and sunset the Sun is very low. Its light travels a long way through the air
to reach us. On the way most of the blue is lost, so we see red and orange.
Try this: Watch the sky one evening. Draw it with three crayons.

Say how you really feel, what you see first and what you do next.
Sample answer: I feel fresh and happy when I open my eyes. The Sun shines on my
bed. I hear birds outside. Then I say good morning to my mother.
B.4 B. Think and answer.
4. Imagine a day when the Sun doesnʼt come out. Talk about how the day would be.
