Q4 There are three same-sized balls of different weights and colours: red, orange and
green. You can use the pan-balance for it but cannot use weights. How will you find
which one is the heaviest and which one is the lightest?

Red ball Orange ball Green ball
The red, orange and green balls, and the pan-balance with both pans empty.

Weigh two balls at a time.

Chapter at a glance
A bigger vessel holds more A smaller vessel holds less
. .

To compare, pour both into same-sized glasses. The higher one is more.
A small vessel can measure a big one. Pour again and again, and count.
We say how much a vessel holds in litres. 2 half litres make 1 litre. 4 quarter litres make 1
litre.
On a pan-balance the heavier thing goes down. The lighter thing goes up.
We say how heavy a thing is in kilograms. 2 half kilograms make 1 kilogram. 4 quarter
kilograms make 1 kilogram.
