Time – 3 Hours Maximum Marks- 80

General Instructions:

(i) The question paper comprises four sections A, B, C and D. There are 36 questions in
the question paper. All questions are compulsory.

(ii) Section–A - question no. 1 to 20 - all questions and parts thereof are of one mark each.
These questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer

questions and assertion - reason type questions. Answers to these should be given in
one word or one sentence.

(iii) Section–B - question no. 21 to 26 are short answer type questions, carrying 2 marks
each. Answers to these questions should in the range of 30 to 50 words.

(iv) Section–C - question no. 27 to 33 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks
each. Answers to these questions should in the range of 50 to 80 words.

(v) Section–D – question no. - 34 to 36 are long answer type questions carrying 5 marks
each. Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.

(vi) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.

(vii) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn.

Metals are electropositive elements. They can easily lose electrons to form ions. Metals show
distinguished physical and chemical properties. Generally most of the metals are ductile and
malleable.Reaction of a metal with water is one of the important chemical property. Metals
like sodium and potassium react with hot/cold water while magnesium reacts with hot water.
Metals like aluminium ,zinc do not react with hot/cold water but they easily react with
steam. When a metal react with hot/cold water the products are metal hydroxide and
hydrogen and when it reacts with steam , the products are metal oxide and hydrogen. Some

The lenses form different types of images when object placed at different locations. When
a ray is incident parallel to the principal axis, then after refraction, it passes through the
focus or appears to come from the focus.
When a ray goes through the optical centre of the lens, it passes without any deviation. If the
object is placed between focus and optical centre of the convex lens, erect and magnified image
is formed. As the object is brought closer to the convex lens from infinity to focus, the image
moves away from the convex lens from focus to infinity. Also the size of image goes on
increasing and the image is always real and inverted.

The relationship between potential difference and current was first established by George
Simon Ohm called Ohms law. According to this law, the current through a metallic conductor

constant for the conductor and it is called resistance of the conductor. Although Ohm's law has
been found valid over a large class of materials, there do exist materials and devices used in

of the mirror? Find its focal length. If the height of the flame is 2.4 cm, find the height of its
image. State whether the image formed is erect or inverted.
(b) The linear magnification produced by a spherical mirror is +3. Analyse this value and state
the (i) type of mirror and (ii) position of the object with respect to the pole of the mirror.
Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image in this case. [3+2=5]
OR
(a) State the laws of refraction of light. Explain the term absolute refractive index of a medium’
and write an expression to relate it with the speed of light in vacuum.
(b) The absolute Refractive index of two media 'A' and 'B' are 2.0 and 1.5 respectively. If the
speed of light in medium 'B' is 2.0 × 108 m/s, calculate the speed of light in (i) vacuum (ii)
medium 'A'.
